Schenectady County Correctional Facility Overview
Schenectady County Correctional Facility is operated through the Schenectady County Sheriff's Office and the Schenectady County Department of Corrections. The official county corrections page states that the Department of Corrections is a division of the Office of the Sheriff. The State Commission of Correction county jail directory lists the same facility as Schenectady County Jail at the same address and phone number.
The facility is the county's only local detention facility identified in the official county and state correction directories during the research sweep. No separate official work-release annex, municipal jail, regional jail, state prison, BOP facility, ICE detention center, or U.S. Marshals-only jail was found in Schenectady County. City and town police may hold people briefly for processing, but the county correctional facility is the local jail tied to the Schenectady County inmate population.
Schenectady County Correctional Facility Population
The DCJS/SCOC Monthly Jail Population Trends report prepared June 1, 2026 reported a May 2026 average daily census of 229 for Schenectady County Jail. That included 227 in-house and 2 boarded out. The report also listed 37 sentenced, 0 civil, 27 federal, 13 technical parole violators, 3 state readies, and 146 other unsentenced people. A rated bed capacity was not located on the official county corrections page or state jail directory page inspected.
The May 2026 average was down from 293 in May 2025. State-ready prisoners dropped from 45 to 3 during that same May-to-May comparison, while federal detainees rose from 14 to 27. The official report does not give a cause, so those figures should be treated as census facts rather than an explanation of policy or court practice.
Look Up Facility Inmates
No official Schenectady County online jail roster was found on the sheriff or corrections pages inspected. Current lookup at Schenectady County Correctional Facility therefore starts with the phone line and verified outside systems. VINELink is linked from the sheriff site for custody and release notifications. WebCriminal helps with court appearances after an arrest. DOCCS, BOP, and ICE apply only when the person is in the matching state, federal, or immigration custody system.
- Call Schenectady County Corrections at (518) 388-4300 for current custody routing.
- Use extension 5 for records not including medical records, extension 2 for visiting, and extension 4 for bail.
- Search VINELink New York for release and custody notifications.
- Use WebCriminal when the issue is a court date, case number, or filed charge.
- Use DOCCS, BOP, or ICE only when local jail custody is no longer the right system.
Schenectady County Correctional Facility Contact
The facility contact block is published on the sheriff pages and the state jail directory. The official corrections page did not publish normal lobby hours in the captured text, so visitors and requesters should call before traveling. The road patrol/K-9 office is at a different Princetown address and should not be treated as the jail counter.

The official Schenectady County corrections page is the main source for bail, commissary, package, visitation, and HALT links for the facility.
The page is operationally detailed even though it does not provide a public inmate roster or mugshot gallery.
Visit Schenectady County Correctional Facility
Contact visitation has resumed at Schenectady County Correctional Facility. The county says all visitors are temperature screened before entry and visitors with fever are denied. Each incarcerated individual may have up to three visitors at a time. Each person is entitled to two visits each week if conduct while being transported to and from the visiting room and conduct in the room warrants that right.
| Visitation Item | Facility Rule or Finding |
|---|---|
| Visit type | Contact visitation resumed. |
| Screening | Temperature screening before entry; fever means denial. |
| Visitors per person | Up to three at a time. |
| Weekly visits | Two visits each week if conduct warrants. |
| Schedule | Posted in housing units, not as a fixed public web table. |
| Rules language | Posted in the visiting area and printed in English and Spanish. |
Inmates are responsible for telling visitors their visiting hours. The county says schedules are subject to change with one week prior notice. Visitors who are concerned that a person seems unusually agitated or depressed are asked to tell the officer in the information center before leaving.
Schenectady Facility Bail Payments
The county corrections page gives specific bail instructions. Corrections accepts cash, certified bank checks, and credit cards. Payment can be made in person or electronically. Remote bail is through GovPayNet, and the county states that use of GovPayNet adds a 7 percent fee. The person paying bail should first call Corrections for the defendant's name, date of birth, court of jurisdiction, judge, and cash bail amount.
| Bail Item | Facility Detail |
|---|---|
| Accepted forms | Cash, certified bank check, and credit card. |
| Remote vendor | GovPayNet. |
| Remote bail fee | 7 percent of the bail amount, per county page. |
| Needed information | Defendant name, DOB, court, judge, and cash bail amount. |
| Technical support | 1-877-EZBAIL5. |
The county warns that if remote bail is paid by card, the receipt is made out to the defendant. When the case is disposed and funds are released, the funds can be collected only by the defendant, minus the service fee. The cardholder is responsible for obtaining repayment from the defendant if that applies.
Commissary and Inmate Accounts
The Cobra Cashier Kiosk is located in the main lobby of the correction facility and accepts cash, credit cards, and debit cards. The county says deposits can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. For kiosk deposits, family or friends need the CHN or the full name and date of birth. Government Payment Services phone deposits require full name and CHN, using Pay Location Code 5500.
| Method | Location or Phone | Required Info | Fees or Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cobra Cashier Kiosk | Main lobby | CHN or full name and DOB | 24/7; cash, credit, debit accepted. |
| Cash kiosk deposit | Main lobby | CHN or full name and DOB | $3.25 fee. |
| Credit-card kiosk deposit | Main lobby | CHN or full name and DOB | $4.95 transaction fee. |
| Government Payment Services | 1-888-277-2535 | Full name, CHN, Pay Location Code 5500 | Verify current fees before use. |
Schenectady Facility Package Rules
Package rules are unusually detailed in the local source material. Packages are accepted only from reputable stores. Personal package drop-off is not allowed, and Uber, Spark, or similar deliveries are not accepted. Packages are searched solely for contraband, repackaged and labeled, and then transported to the housing unit. The county gives a target process of no more than five days, though it may take longer.
- Seven cotton underwear items, seven white cotton T-shirts with no designs, and seven pairs of white socks may be allowed under the posted rules.
- Two white or light grey sweatshirts may be allowed, but no hoods, zippers, pockets, logos, buttons, snaps, V-necks, or tank tops.
- Prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses, one small religious medallion, one worship book, and six publications are listed with limits.
- Clothing cannot be silk or silk-like, and personal deliveries are not accepted.
Mail and Video Services
A full official mail-address format with booking number rules was not located in the corrections-page text. Do not invent one. Use the facility address and call the jail before mailing if the item has to reach a specific person. ConnectNetwork lists Schenectady County NY County Jail services such as video visitation, visitation scheduling, messaging, newsfeed, eBooks, FM radio, and TV audio, but that is a vendor page. Confirm service status with the jail before relying on a vendor listing.
For medical records, the correctional facility phone directory lists extension 8. The Wadsworth Center CLIA page identifies Schenectady County Correctional Facility with a certified medical/testing component and the same 320 Veeder Avenue address, but it does not replace jail medical-record procedures.
Facility Records and FOIL
Government agencies requesting record checks should follow the sheriff records page and send the request on agency letterhead by email or mail to the Records Unit. Other requesters are routed to Schenectady County's FOIL form. The form asks for name, address, city, state, ZIP, email, telephone, request detail, copy request, and CAPTCHA. The copy request field states a $0.25 per-page charge.
For a jail record request, include precise details: full name, date of birth if known, custody date, arresting agency, court or case number if known, and the exact record requested. Sealed records, active law-enforcement matters, privacy interests, safety concerns, and statutory limits can affect what the county releases.
State, Federal, and ICE Transfers
Schenectady County Correctional Facility is a county jail, not a state prison. People sentenced to state prison may appear as state-ready while waiting for transfer, then move into the New York DOCCS incarcerated lookup. Federal sentenced custody uses the BOP inmate locator. Immigration detention uses ICE ODLS. A person can leave the local jail search path quickly after sentencing, designation, or transfer.
Note: Confirm custody and visit status with Schenectady County Correctional Facility before traveling or sending money.
